Are you Blind Malaysians?: old.post#01(171009)

Was watching TV just only. Was a program where they highlight the communities worries and qualms.
Today in particular they were talking about, how in this area of KL, blind people are at their disadvantage (which I think not only this part of the country are suffering, the whole of Malaysia is!).

I think when you walk the streets of KL, you will notice stripes of yellow tiles on the walkway..if you don’t..start noticing! You will know the reason why. Sample below:

These yellow tiled roads are actually markers guiding the blind when they walk on the walkways.
They follow these guides closely as they don’t have the privilege of having able eyes.

But there are many inconsiderate people who park their cars and motorbikes, blocking these pathways.
These poor souls usually get tangled with motorcycles, mamak tables or even stores!

Highlighting that public in general should not block these pathways, the program even interviewed a few members of the public to get their take.

Case 1:
Reporter : Do you know what does this yellow lines stands for?
Motorcyclist : I know, its for the blind.
Reporter : Then why do you still park on it and obstruct the path for the blind?
Motorcyclist : I try to push my motor as inwards as possible, but its slightly sticking out, they can “SEE” it.There is no ample parking provided to us, so we have to park there.

Case 2:
Reporter : Do you know what does this yellow lines stands for?
Stall Owner At Bazaar Ramadan : I know, its for the blind.
Reporter : Then why do you still park on it and obstruct the path for the blind?
Stall Owner At Bazaar Ramadan : Yes, but its only 1 month. I do guide them to continue on with their path.
Reporter : But its still obstructing the path for the blind?
Stall Owner At Bazaar Ramadan : Just smiled and gave stupid look.

Case 3:
Reporter : Do you know that the Association (for the Blind) made many complaints to your body with regards to these matters. So what is your department doing to deter motorcyclist from obstructing markers guiding the blind on walkways?
DBKL Spokesperson: Nothing we can do. We advised, so now we can only put signages to tell them not to park there.
Reporter : Then what about traders blocking them with their stalls and tables and chairs?
DBKL Spokesperson: Nothing we can do. We advised, but nothing is done. And the Bazaar Ramadan is only 1 month. Not much effect.

My take for Case 1:
Dude, you are in the wrong, just shut up and move your bike. They cant SEE for christ sake!! SHAME ON YOU!!Lets try and blind fold you and ask you to walk with few motorbikes by the side obstructing your walkway. You might be lucky you will get an exhaust burn on your leg!!

My take for Case 2:
Auntie, so what if you help the blind? You in the 1st place is blocking their path! Your stall shouldn’t be there at the 1st place. You are causing inconvenience to them yet you can smile and give a stupid look? SHAME ON YOU!!

My take for Case 3:
Lady. What is DBKL doing? Are you guys sleeping or “FULL”? Dont give us the crap that you cant do anything. ENFORCEMENT is the key word. Fine these people, tow their vehicles, make sure bazaar traders dont encroach these places, provide more parking spaces. stop sleeping on the job and get the HELL UP!
SHAME ON YOU!!

So Malaysians, have a heart to your brothers and sisters that are not that fortunate as us.
Don’t be blind!
